Halloween Odds & Ends

by Christine | October 13th, 2010

Sometimes Mama just over indulges. But Mama can’t really be the only Mama that does that, right?! Do kids really need a new toy to celebrate the upcoming holiday? Halloween can definitely be celebrated without a personalized bat plate. Fourth of July can be celebrated without a new red, white and blue outfit. But in the end, sometimes picking up a little trinket or toy out of the $1 section can really put you in the mood for the holiday and get the kids grinning from ear to ear!

Baby Halloween — soft crinkle books have to be about the best thing to come along for babies. Mama loves that they are washable and won’t make a “bonk” should baby decide to throw it up  in the air. The eco-friendly Dandelion Toys line has an adorable line of soft toys just for Halloween that are irresistible. Mama loves the Pumpkin book! Available at DandelionForBaby.com, $12.99.

Handmade Halloween — it’s American Craft week and we should all be supporting handmade. Mama wishes that she could woodwork as beautifully as some of those sellers on Etsy. While Mama is honing that skill, let’s just purchase this Scardy Cat Not Scary Black Cat push toy. Available from Pretty Dreamer on Etsy.com, $26.

Fisher Price Little People Pumpkin Party PlaysetTot Halloween — there is something magnetic about Little People that you just can’t resist. They are fun and they give you the opportunity to play and talk about a holiday in a way your kids can understand. For Halloween, Fisher-Price has two Little People sets that are just what you need to make the holiday complete — Pumpkin Party, $30, and Trick-or-Treat Surprise, $25. Both available at Fisher-Price.com.

Ghostly Halloween — if you’re looking for easy entertainment for your kids or even a great present to bring your child’s teacher, this Ghostly Finger Puppet set is just what you’ve been looking for. Sing the song “5 Little Ghosts Sitting on a Post” and watch the kids go into fits of giggles. Available from Etsy.com, $12.

Do you make a Halloween basket for your kids with toys? Are you handing out candy this year or something different like Play Doh and raisins?

My philosophy is simple: just because you're a mom doesn't mean you have to forgo style or your life. You can do it all with a little help from Mama. Mama makes life easier by doing all the shopping, crafting and ranting for you because really...what Mama has the time for that?! Mama will not lie, I can bake but if you're looking for cooking tips you might be better off going someplace else! Let's stay connected!
