Why hello there Mamas! Yes, it’s true after an almost two-year hiatus on the ol’ blog and being busy with my three busy kids, I decided that it was high time to revitalize my writing career and spark up the blog again. While it hasn’t been that I didn’t want to write or that I didn’t have anything to say (because those that know me best, know that I always have something to say) but rather the format that it was coming out in was distracting and not where I intended it to go in the first place. One can get so distracted by Internet and all that it has to offer. There is news coming at you from every end and honestly, I felt like a lot of it was lies. Being made up by whoever out there to get someone to read their site.
I’m an honest journalist and well, I wanted to be able to offer someone more than just the latest DIY project, outfit and style ideas and local spots to hit up (those are all important too and I will definitely still write about them but…). I mean after all I did go to school for this kind of thing for people to be informed, enlightened and inspired. Where I left off was not any of those things. I started to lose my true voice and vision and therefore, I had to regroup (well, that and having the third baby really killed my mojo for working late nights and during the day).
So here I am two years later as blogs start to die out in favor of just pretty photos on Instagram. You see a blog is now just a placeholder for information but in this day-and-age we have the attention span of a gnat (about 5 seconds) and pretty photos with a short 140 word caption is all that will grab one’s attention now. Unfortunately, it’s come down to sponsored post after sponsored post and I just want to see something and read something that is REAL. There is a lot that IS real but only few and far between. I’m sure that people honestly LOVE the butter they are talking about but sometimes, you just crave a little more than just butter-talk and what whipped cream I should buy at the market. I mean what about the innocent children being killed because of radical religious beliefs or the City of Love having an act of terrorism bestowed upon them because of the printed word or the fact that our children are not learning life skills like empathy and interpersonal communication and that racial tensions in our country are at an all time high since segregation was lifted. These are the real issues of concern as kick-off 2015. Not how to get a coffee stain out of my white shirt (while that is helpful…any hints?).
As for me, I do love pretty pictures but I still believe in the power of the written word and therefore, I will write and hopefully, someone will listen. If not, that’s okay because like I said in the beginning, it’s more about that I put it out there then if someone takes the time to read it. Welcome back friends and let’s discuss real issues with some fun sprinkled in. Grab a cup of coffee, sit down and let’s get busy…because a Mama’s work is never done.
