Sorry Mama was silent yesterday! But Mama has been plenty busy writing stories all over the Internet and well…we decided to take a little vacation south-of-the-border as we enjoy Lily-girl’s spring break. And you know that what means…swimsuits. Ugh…!
Mama is no sunbathing beauty as Mama learned long ago that staying under the shade reading a book is the best way to enjoy any vacation. However the kids have a different idea of fun — spending long hours in the pool and sunshine. Mama’s bikini wearing days went out the window a long time ago as Baby Boy gave Mama some nice stretch marks that aren’t for the faint of heart. Once upon a time Mama swore laser surgery was in order. Now, it’s more like bring on the Bio-oil (love that stuff!).
While the best sun accessory is a big huge umbrella that blocks any sort of ray that may come your way, Mama packed a few things that also are fashionable and help keep the sun at bay. Oh, and two cute suits that even those with stretch marks will be happy to wear!
Happy swimming!

Hands-down Episencial
is the best sunscreen for families. It not only doesn’t have all of that nasty stuff that EWG says sunscreen shouldn’t have, it also actually rubs in easily and stays on. We all use it on our faces and bodies. It’s also great for those with sensitive skin. Baby Boy breaks out using the “cheap” sunscreens or even some of those labeled “sensitive” — with Episencial, never a spot on him.
Never go on a trip without a good hat. Mama loves this wide-brimed version that is crushable so it’s perfect to fit in your suitcase for vacations. Plus as much as Mama loves those trendy fedoras, not everyone can pull them off — this hat crosses generations. Small Samara Brim Hat, $54, at athleta.com.
Of course you need a good pair of sunglasses to keep the sun from burning your eyeballs (yes, they can really get sunburned). While you can spend upwards of $500 for a really good pair of sunglasses, Mama loves this classic aviator style by Halogen — and they’re only $68 at nordstrom.com. They also come in three different colors so you can pick the best for your coloring.
It’s hard to find a good suit under $100 these days — take advantage of this great style and look just for $92. Casbah Bandeau Tank at jcrew.com.
This is it Mamas — the real deal…the perfect suit for summer. For those that don’t love tightness of swimsuits, this is the suit for you. The blousey top is so sexy and yet still is great swimwear. You definitely don’t need a cover-up on top — just wrap a sari around your bottom! Badgley Mischka Blouson Swim Top, $100, and Hipster Bottoms, $45, at nordstrom.com.
So what are your favorite types of bathing suits to wear — tankini, one-piece or for the brave…bikinis?
