We all know that we could play “what if” all day long. What if Mama had actually stayed in NYC and never came back to sunny San Diego as planned? What if we had actually put all of our house money in Google stock when it was about to go public two days later like our stock broker suggested? What if…?
Yeah, the questions could go on and on for a very long time and with each answer something significant in your life would be changed forever. Meaning your husband, your kids, your house…it all changes. Then you start to think about all the things you did before kids that you don’t do now…like go to the mall (now it’s only online…who wants to drag kidlets to the mall), working out (ha!) and staying out all hours of the night partying like a rock star (yeah, Mama misses that one for sure).
Lately Mama’s been thinking…what about all those things that Mama has wanted to try but never had the time. Like learning to make an amazing flower arrangement, making roses out of frosting, cooking an authentic Mexican meal from start to finish, learning a new language (Rosetta Stone anyone?) or learning to corral cows. Yes, Mama has always wanted to trade in the kitten heels for cowboy boots…although only for a trial period.
Mama talked about how a vacation with the kids is just not a vacation so now Mama is thinking maybe it’s time to go at it alone. Go away for the week and come back relaxed, rejuvenated and having learned a whole new set of skills…it’s actually easier than you think!
VocationVacations.com — this site allows you to pick one of many things you might like to try like: Be a CheeseMonger; Be a Dog Sled Owner and Trainer; Be a Fashion Stylist; Be a Pit Crew Member; or Be a Sword Maker. You get one day to a week in a hands-on experience with a mentor that will give you the ins and outs of your chosen vocation. While it’s not free, the experience may allow you to jumpstart a new career. The price varies based on the vocation you’ve chosen and locations are all over the U.S. — who knows there could be one in your own backyard worth looking into!
Cooking vacations — whether your passion is Mexican cooking, French pastries or Italian cuisine, there is definitely a cooking vacation that you need to book STAT. Mama has an eye on the MexicaChica Getaways for the Day of the Dead cooking tour. However Italy might be calling Mama soon for a day of pasta making and discovering the Italian countryside with Cucina con Vista Cooking School. You can take a half day class and enjoy the rest of your vacation or sign-up for a three day course of making pastas and sauces that everyone will be jealous of when you get back home. Headed to France? Take a cooking class right in Montmarte. Amazing what you can do if you have a few days to leave and discover your own talents?
Under the open sky — maybe Mama has been reading Pioneer Woman too much lately (those photos of the cows and snow are just too beautiful to stop!) but it looks so gorgeous and peaceful out on the ranch. Mama has the urge to wear Wranglers and cowboy boots and saddle up under the big blue sky. Yes, Mama is talking about going to a Dude Ranch — who’s in?! While there are some where you can sleep under the stars, you know Mama isn’t that type of girl. Nope, Mama is talking about 5-star ranches complete with a Marlboro Man to show you the ropes. Mountain Sky Guest Ranch in Montana has a Wild West Woman Adventure that just looks too good to pass up…anyone own any chaps Mama can borrow?!
There is so much out there to discover and do…what’s your passion? Antarctica anyone…?!
