Last year at this time Mama was so ahead of the game. The Christmas presents were already bought and hid safely under the bed, up in the closet and in the garage. The problem was that Mama had forgotten what I had already bought and proceeded to keep buying. Oops! Doesn’t that happen to everyone?!
Fast-forward one year later and there is not a single present bought. Perhaps it was done to avoid the budget-buster of 2009 or maybe, just maybe…Mama was waiting for the good deals to roll in. A few people have asked Mama what the hot toys will be this year for the holidays. Will it be the iXL or the MobiGo? Will it be Mickey Mouse or Littlest Pet Shop? Let’s not forget the Zhu Zhu Hamster fiasco of 2009 or the Tickle Me Elmo episode from 2007. Would you pay $40 for a $9 toy to make your child happy on Christmas Day?
We’ll find out…won’t we?! Here’s Mama’s top five picks for hot holiday toys with more to come…
Mickey Mouse Hot Dog Dancer — this lovable dancing mouse just hit the shelves yesterday at Target and already, it’s sold out. If that’s not a hint of hot toy — Mama doesn’t know what is. Baby Boy is obsessed with Mickey so this is definitely going under the tree. He walks, talks and dances to six songs — he even moonwalks! Your kids will delight in Mickey just as much as they loved Tickle Me Elmo. The retail price for this toy is, $34.99. Currently, it’s selling on Amazon.com for $63.39 — almost double the price already. If you score one on sale — put it up on ebay and watch the bids come in!
Fisher-Price iXL — you asked so now Mama will tell you…the iXL wins. Simply because it does much, much more than game cartridges which need to be purchased separately. They liken it to the iPhone for kids because it combines many gadgets into one. The iXL is a digital reader, game player, MP3 player, art studio, photo viewer and note pad. It comes preloaded with apps ready to play and then additional cartridge games with favorite Disney characters like Cars and Princesses can be purchased. The pen stylus is easy for kids to maneuver and it is made kid-friendly like all Fisher-Price products. The retail price for this toy in June was $69.99. Currently, it’s selling at $72.50 on Amazon.com (other places it’s up to $79.99).
Pillow Pets — ironic that these creatures or are they pillows…came out of San Diego. You’ve definitely seen the commercials and now your child is begging your for one. They can be used as a comfy pillow and then folded in half to make a lovable pet for you little one. With over 30 types of animals to choose from, you’ll definitely find one your child will love and will take everywhere with them. Available at MyPillowPets.com, $24.99, or currently some styles are available for pre-order at ToysRUs.com for $19.99. Mama’s kids won’t notice if we just wrap up the ones we already have and throw them under the tree, right?!
Tangled featuring Rapunzel — last year it was The Princess and the Frog, this year Disney is targeting little girl’s with visions of Rapunzel in their heads. The dolls, the accessories, the storybooks, the CDs, the castles, the clothing — it’s all there and it will be at the top of your little princesses’ list. The movie debuts November 24th…just in time for the holidays! Get your orders in NOW before the rush. Mama recommends the Rapunzel Braiding Friends Hair Braider, $29.99, or the Disney Tangled Maximus Horse, $19.99. For boys, your safe buying anything Buzz Lightyear or Woody — Disney did a bang-up job marketing that movie this summer.
Sing-A-Ma-Jigs — think of these little creatures as the annoying creatures to replace last year’s Zhu Zhu pets. They also kind-of remind Mama of Teletubbies — whatever they are, your kid will want one. They chatter, laugh and sing in their own language that is sure to set your kids into fits of uncontrollable laughter. When you have two together, they also harmonize a song perfectly — wish Mama could do that. You have to see it to believe it — Mama also loves this toy for babies. It’s something they can hold on to and giggle to — just like their older sibs. They are retailing for $12.99 at ToysRUs.com but are completely sold out. Some are available on Amazon.com starting at $14.95 and go up to $24.99. Trust Mama, this is the toy that will be selling on ebay for big bucks!!
