Military style for fall

Thank you everyone for taking time out to read about our loss, our pain and honor our country’s military heroes — current, past and present. However, in an effort to get back to Mama’s normal routine of style and unsolicited advice (Mama appreciates that you still stop by to hear it every once and awhile!), let’s pay tribute to our service men and women with one of fall’s biggest trends — Military. Yes, it’s everywhere from skinny cargo pants to jackets adorned with buttons and toggles to lace-up boots.

Men, women and children (even pets…see below!) will be looking like they just stepped out of bootcamp. However, Mama can’t help but wonder that those that actually have to get dressed in their uniform everyday, do they really want to see it when they go out in the civilian world? At a nightclub? At the PTA meeting?

Here’s a few of Mama’s top Military-esque picks for fall…can you guess which one will Mama be wearing?

Straight jacket — probably the key piece to pulling this trend off is the jacket. No other piece really screams military other than the jacket with buttons and detailing. Mama loves this Sanctuary Military Jacket that comes in black and olive — perfect for day or night. Available at Piperlime.com, $130.

Skinny legs — Mama’s not sure what is more popular these days the jeggings or the skinny cargo pant. Don’t fret yet if you don’t have long, spider legs…Mama has some of the shortest legs and they seem to fit just perfect and slouch in all the right places. Try the new Worn Jeans Skinny Cargo Pants, $79, at Nordstrom.com (love that they are less than $100 – perfect price for a trend!).

The satchel – cross-body bags are still big this season and as Mamas, this style couldn’t be better for us as it keeps our hands free to wrangle tots and shopping bags. For a more dressed-up military style, Mama recommends the Drawbridge Purse, $54.99, as the studs add just the right amount of military for a night out. For a more personalized style, the custom tote bag from customglamgirl.com, $24.95, is perfect for day. In fact, my teen nieces might be getting this as a gift.

On top – J. Crew’s younger sister, Madewell.com, has gotten the military shirt just right with their Silk Cargo Shirt, $110. But Mama must give props to Anthropologie for their River Tyne Tee, $68 — perfect for Mamas everywhere to get in on the trend in a budget-friendly way!

Lace-it-up — when Mama heard that Doc Martens were making their way back “in,” I almost fainted. Mama was not a fan the first time around and most likely, won’t be wearing them this season either. There are several cute lace-up boots that Mama will wear, especially these budget-friendly Dolce Vita for Target Lace-up Boots, $27.99.

Which is your favorite trend for fall?

Mama had to include this…too funny! What will your pet wear for Halloween?
