Mama feels like we haven’t crafted together in such a long time. Let’s grab our yarn and “Cumbaya” around the knitting circle with a fun weekend project that is actually perfect for any grandparents that may have birthdays coming (or just save them for the holidays…). Have you been in Anthropologie lately? Those cute little Felted Soaps will set you back $14 each. Tempting, Mama knows….
But instead of purchasing, take a few minutes this weekend to make a few with the kiddos. It’s an easy, fun craft that everyone will enjoy — not to mention will be really squeaky clean while making it too!
Felted Soaps
Items needed: one regular bar of soap (Mama prefers to use round or oval shaped soaps); wool batting; pantyhose or nylon sock; and bowl of hot water.
- Pull tufts of wool off the batting and lay crisscrossing across and around the soap until it’s completely covered. For a more textured look, use two to three different colors of wool. Make sure the bar is completely wrapped.
- Next, stick the wrapped soap into a nylon sock or toe of pantyhose to keep the wool in place.
- Place the wrapped soap into the hot water. Pat the wool to set it in place. Suds will start to appear. Once they do, remove the soap from the sock and continue to pat and squeeze the wool over the bar. Place the bar into the hot water again if it gets too sudsy.
- Once the bar feels solid and the wool has felted, rinse the bar in cold water and dry off.
- The wool will continue to shrink as it dries.
Now wasn’t that fun! What a great hostess gift for that weekend BBQ your attending…

My philosophy is simple: just because you're a mom doesn't mean you have to forgo style or your life. You can do it all with a little help from Mama. Mama makes life easier by doing all the shopping, crafting and ranting for you because really...what Mama has the time for that?! Mama will not lie, I can bake but if you're looking for cooking tips you might be better off going someplace else!
