Mama Decorates Halloween

The weather is finally becoming fall in Southern California! Yesterday was a bit breezy with a cool, crisp feel to the air and I brought out the long pants for the kids. It is so nice to finally have summer behind us and move into the next few months which will definitely fly by with all the festivities of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas. So this past weekend, Lily and I were more than ready to decorate for Halloween. I mean it’s been months since we have been able to decorate the house for a holiday (I can’t believe there isn’t anything between Fourth of July and Halloween to decorate for!!!).

Along with our normal pumpkins, ghosts and scarecrows, Mama found some new really cool decorations to make this Halloween one of the best decorated! If you take my advice, you could end up on the cover of next year’s House Beautiful…or maybe you’ll just settle for the best on the block!
  • Candle Warmers — if you have kids and you love candles but not the open flame — you need this! In fact, I ordered two as a gift this morning because I think they are amazing. The stylish lamp comes in a variety of styles with interchangeable lamp covers — the Halloween one features ghosts — and the lamp quickly heats the candle to release the fragrance with no flame. You can also choose from a variety of holiday scents including Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon Sticks, and Harvest Apple Twist. Yummy, my house smells like pumpkin pie without me having to bake!!! Available at www.candlewarmers.com, $34.99.
  • Pumpkin Home Stickers — what’s better than cute pumpkin stickers that you can put anywhere and remove easily! These stickers by Nouvelles Images are great for kids that want to help decorate and you can easily bend the rules to let them stick them up on windows or walls — just make sure they don’t get into the real sticker box! Available at www.amazon.com, $30.
  • Bat Chandelier — so this one is a little over the top but a bat chandelier would look really cool in any playroom or if your little tyke isn’t afraid of bats and goblins, go ahead and hang it up in their room! Available at www.potterybarnkids.com, $44.99 (just went on sale from $59!!).
  • Dremel Pumpkin Carver – this amazing little tool will help you take your pumpkin carving to a new level. The Dremel Pumpkin Carving Kit is a rotary tool that will assist you in carving intricate designs. Forget the basic Jack-O-Lantern this year and try your hand with a carved witch face. The kit comes with 10 carving templates or create your own! Available at www.dremel.com, $29.99.
Of course the best decorations are the ones that you hand make with your little ones! Nothing beats a hanging egg carton spider that brings a smile to your face every time you see it. Check back next week for Mama’s top picks for Halloween crafts!
